Camera Housing

As a key component for protecting internal components and shaping the product appearance, the machining precision and structural stability of the camera housing are crucial. When machining the main body of the camera housing, GREFEE formulates detailed machining plans according to the characteristics of cameras in different fields

Deformation Treatment：Since the interior of the main housing body has many hollowed-out structures, to avoid deformation during the machining process, the material is subject to strict stress relief treatment before machining to reduce the impact of residual stress inside the material on machining precision

Machining Precision：For some complex features on the main housing body, such as key holes and interface slots, 5-axis equipments are used to ensure the machining precision of each feature. The 5-axis machining of camera housings has significant advantages, which fully meet the requirements of camera housings for precision and stability, and provide a solid guarantee for the overall performance of the camera.

Complete multi-sided complex machining with one clamping, reducing the error accumulation caused by multiple clampings and improving the overall precision.

Break through space limitations, capable of machining complex structures such as undercuts and inclined surfaces that cannot be handled by 3-axis machining, especially suitable for complex curved surfaces and special-shaped structures of the housing.

Reduce the reliance on special fixtures, lower production costs, not only shorten the machining process and improve efficiency but also avoid deformation caused by multiple clampings and ensure the stability of thin-walled parts.

Higher machining surface quality, reducing subsequent processing procedures. For the main body of the camera housing machined by 5-axis machining, the dimensional tolerance is controlled within ±0.01mm, and the flatness error does not exceed 0.005mm.

CNC Machining of Lens Barrels – Fixture Design

For different types of camera components, GREFEE designs special fixtures. Taking lens barrel components and Japan’s Tsugami equipments as examples, they have obvious advantages in machining the lens mount components of cameras:

High precision: The equipment can achieve a tolerance control of ±0.005mm, ensuring stable focusing.

High integration: Since the grooves are evenly distributed on the surface, a 4th-axis rotating axis is required during machining. Therefore, a 4th-axis rotary table is equipped on the machining center table, which can complete multi-process machining such as groove milling, chamfering, and drilling in one clamping, reducing the process flow time and improving the mass production efficiency.

Flexible clamping: Adaptive clamping is realized through precise air pressure control, which can not only ensure the clamping stability of thin-walled lens barrels but also avoid component deformation caused by rigid clamping, especially suitable for components made of easily deformable materials such as aluminum alloys.

Extended Components – GOPRO Protective Case

Among extended components, GOPRO protective cases also belong to components with multiple hollowed-out structures (prone to deformation) that require multi-sided machining. For such components, more details need to be paid attention to during the machining process. For example, stress relief treatment should be performed on the material before machining, and excessive cutting force should be avoided during machining to prevent workpiece deformation. Factors such as tool speed, cutting speed, and cutting feed rate during machining need to be carefully considered.

Extended Components – Handheld Parts

For handheld parts, the most important thing is to ensure the hand feel of the parts. At the same time, they need to have wear resistance, corrosion resistance, aesthetics, and a delicate grip feeling. They also need to ensure strength while reducing weight to facilitate long-time handheld shooting. Special attention should be paid to the pre-treatment and post-treatment of the parts. After the machining of the parts is completed, comprehensive cleaning is carried out to provide higher guarantee for the post-treatment of the parts. Therefore, more details need to be paid attention to during the machining process to ensure the refinement of the part surface.

Pre-treatment：The parts should be fully polished, especially the 4 finger notches and the outer corners, which need to be repeatedly polished with emery cloth to eliminate steps and level differences, laying a good foundation for subsequent treatment.

Surface Treatment：Special textures or coatings can be applied on the surface to increase the friction and comfort of holding. For example, through anodization, a uniform luster and texture are formed on the part surface. The oxide film not only improves the surface texture and effectively resists friction and wear but also blocks the chemical reaction caused by sweat, enhancing corrosion resistance, so that the parts can achieve a better balance between practicality and aesthetics.
